Philip Blenkinsop advised me at the end of the workshop in Cambodia to go 'analogue' again .
The lack of an instant review window, the limited number of shots given the length of the roll etc force you to be more selective. I shot four rolls so far and it has taken quite some time to get them processed, scanned and uploaded... I also see that I need to be more careful with the negatives, otherwise there might be too many artifacts around...

At Lift, Bruce Sterling discussed the possible impact scenarios that might happen with Nicolas Szarkozy and his new wife Carlo. One scenario was the high ambition/high publicity scenario...That one appears to be happening immediately after his speech....

Laurent Haug is looking back at a very successful Liftconference in Geneva, where I am on the advisory board. Three days of extravaganza, followed by a strategy weekend in the mountains, brainstorming on the things to go for in '09 and in Asia. Thanks to Pierre for being very hospitable and opening his chalet for us. The full picture set of Lift this year

Following the conference some of the speakers as Scott Smith, Robert Scoble and Bruce Sterling went to the mountains for some strategy work. Before going to the mountains, we went to Cern to see one of the largest scientific projects in the world. A rare and unique opportunity as it will be closed for the general audience as of this winter...

A great final conference day in Geneva at Liftconference. The photoset can be found here...

A great first conference day at liftconference 2008. From Bruce Chatwin on the Sarkozy family to global warming. Finished off by the ultimate in fondues... I am loading the pictures to Flickr but the connection is slow slow slow...

Lift 08 has started with big bangs. Together with Laurent Haug I moderated the Venture session with 8 great start-ups from Europe and the VS. A terrific panel (among others Robert Scoble, Pierre Chapaz) made the guys sweat, but learn a lot too....

Another very interesting evening at Ipan that I moderated. The topic was the latest egocaster and egolurker tool: Twitter.
Erwin Blom had his 20.000 twitter post at the event...
More twitteratzi then iPhone owners among the 100 attendees, but just... the full series is here on flickr, the MP3 reports made by Veronica will be posted at Ipan soon.

Sunday, February 03, 2008

At last weeks Bowlr event in Amsterdam, many many were looking at their keyboards and screens and sharing what they were doing or following what others were doing...Twitter it is called.. Is this the latest craze or a revolutionary new way of communication and social interaction? Come and find out at next week's Ipan event on Tuesday from 19:30. I will be moderating the evening with many of the leading 'Twitteratzi' in The Netherlands around and Erwin Blom of The Crowds doing an introduction....Do not miss it...

Never a dull moment in Amsterdam. These guys were playing tetris for a viral movie for an energy company... The guy from the snackbar below became not amused very quickly...

Dld was great! The team did an excellent job getting 'uploading the 21st century' together and done very well on the execution indeed... the full set of my pictures can be found here

Another great day at DLD08. Full house in all the sessions, people sitting on the floor and standing in corridors. Great to see such good content being appreciated by so many...
The other thing I also like a lot here, are the Burda photographers. Very nice and professional team that make super pictures...

The kick off for DLD. A great bunch of people together. Before the official start of DLD I had the pleasure of going on a tour of the Pinakothek, one of the great museums in Munich. You can follow the activities on this photo-set on Flickr...

Sunday, January 20, 2008

Great to be back in Munich for the 08 version of Burda Media DLD. I am meeting up with old and new friends and will be going through a very interesting and inspiring program coming days...

'Paris callling'. The music scene in Paris is vibrant. Meeting up with record labels, retailers, promoters and organisers and new media companies was very inspiring...

We have a second shooter in the family now. Roderick is becoming a keen photographer and has secured his own little Leica for that purpose......

2007 was a very special year for me.
On the downside I lost my father, which was a big blow....

On the positive side there were many many highlights. I traveled around the world a lot: Jordan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Denmark, Greece, South Africa,... I started a great new job at Veronica..., worked with great photography pro's,...did some terrific conferences,....enjoyed my little boy's presence....in short many great things indeed!

I hope '08 will be again great and full of inspiration for me and I wish that for all of you too....

Sunday, December 30, 2007

A great holiday to Jordan... taking both an M8 and the MP. The latter shots will follow later as those will have to be developed. I also have some issues with some SD cards, anyhow; the first batch of pictures can be found here...

Saturday, December 22, 2007

We had our Veronica Christmas party at Castle Engelenburg in Brummen. A great party added by the 'White Christmas' atmosphere created by -9 degrees C.

Thursday, December 20, 2007

Meeting up with the start-up scene always gives new insights and inspiration. We will be competing head-on with them at the Bowlr championships in January....

Sunday, December 16, 2007

The Christmas play in, which Roderick was supposed to be one of the shepherds, was very nice and the kids did their utmost to bring the story to live.... Roderick decided to opt out as his friend (one of the sheep...) did not show up....

Sunday, December 09, 2007

"Retro is the future" - I am moving back forwards... the workshop in Cambodia has been a tremendous inspiration, therefore I am moving back to film again. I got myself an MP and am trying out the first roll...anxious to see what will come out of it....Very different to digital, after the shot there is nothing to look at, but the wheel with the ISO values...

Wednesday, December 05, 2007

We promised Roderick that he would get a mobile phone when he would be 10. Sinterklaas decided that would be too late....

Sunday, December 02, 2007

The big milestone: 100k views on my Flickr account.....

Back home after a couple of fascinating weeks out in Asia! The good news of arriving very early is that you have to stay awake to avoid too much of a jet lag.. with all the bad weather out there, I decided to upload more pictures of Cambodia and Vietnam...

Friday, November 30, 2007

Another very interesting day in Hanoi, visiting many many places including museums, the water puppet show and more before having dinner with our good friends. Only one more day and then it is back to Europe...

Thursday, November 29, 2007

Everybody seems to be eating all the time... on every spot in Vietnam we have been (Hanoi and the way to and from Halong Bay) you see these little eating places, with very small chairs...
The internet connection is very slow, so only the first pictures are at my Flickr account...

A fantastic couple of days of photographing in Vietnam with our Vietnamese friends. Spectacular scenery and people. Highlight Halong Bay...

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Hanoi is a busy busy city with many scooters... Zebra stripes on the road do not seem to have any meaning and you have to carefully cross the road, otherwise someone will hit you...

Tomorrow we go with award winning Vietnamese photographer Do Anh Tuan for two days shooting in the country side and to Halong bay....I am really looking forward to that.

Sunday, November 25, 2007

The scenery around the temples around Siem Reap is amazing... Especially from on top of an elephant...

It was very special to see my pictures displayed very large at the Angkor Photo Festival.... hundreds of people coming to see the work of the VII class. Afterwards we discussed each other's work and Philip showed us the opus magnum he is working on....beautiful...

16 photographers reading themselves for the final presentation tonight....

Friday, November 23, 2007

Lots of festivities going on here with the boat races right out of the door of the FCC...

Thursday, November 22, 2007

Photo reporters make long days, I can tell now from experience. A project requires lots of research, taking shots, editing, trying to find better shots, creating a story line and more...My project is no exception and has made me do long, long days... I am not complaining though as it is great fun and I learn a lot from it.
Gary and Philip share with us many of their stories, what they were facing and how they solved it....

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

The place I am staying in, is next to the river. The boat races will start in a week and training is in full swing...
Another great day in Cambodia with lots of development in the masterclass....Philip is pushing me to do more with less....Challenging but rewarding indeed...

Monday, November 19, 2007

The masterclass has started yesterday evening with a great dinner near the temples. This morning we went out to explore them, which was truly fascinating. During the dinner yesterday and during the day today, I got to talk a lot to PHILIP BLENKINSOP who will work with me during this week on my project. We all got our projects sorted, I am happily working on mine...

Buzzing around on mopeds, feels like Amsterdam :)
I am trying to get better ideas for the project....moving around for inspiration....

Friday, November 16, 2007

After a long but relatively comfortable journey (especially the food at the Ho Chi Minh Airport being very nice) over Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh to I arrived at final destination Siem Reap for the VIIPhoto Masterclass. Straight from the airport I entered the first of probably many TukTuk rides...

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

We got the pioneers together in the internet and music industry at two special locations in Amsterdam. We started at Spoiled to move on later to Waldorf. A great and buzzing KINKFM evening with music, food and drinks and lots of great guests.... I think we will do it again ;)

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

The Veronica young talent day was held in a special location; the El Hema exhibition at Mediamatic, an inspiring session at an inspiring location....

Friday, November 09, 2007

Talking about the music business and radio. I now know why last.fm is radio and not a collection of tracks that you can play like a cd...

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

The Ipan evening was all about women and interactivity/internet, with women MP3reporters from V-radio. A challenging theme that set the discussion on fire....the full set is here

Sunday, November 04, 2007

It is getting chilly again and the days are becoming shorter and shorter. Nice opportunity to spend time with friends...

Saturday, November 03, 2007

Strategy weekends should be held in true outdoor environments.....
