End of a long and busy week...

Being on the phone a lot, there is a lot to be said to reduce the radiation coming in. Pongresearch has developed a good tool to do exactly that.

It had been a busy period with the acquisition of the Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau (ANP) (Netherlands national news agency), The Netherlands’ largest news agency supplies independent news to virtually all Dutch media - such as television, radio, newspapers, Internet, mobile, magazines – and the public and private sectors. Therefore it was nice to have time for an extensive breakfast today. Nice to see Roderick being an avid media consumer too...

I took the Leica V-lux20 out for a spin today at Artis Zoo in Amsterdam. Versatile little snapper cam indeed. Akward for me not shooting with prime lenses...The full set is here.

The analogue physical/digital world's are getting more and more differentiated. Being an avid fan of Time magazine I compared three deliveries, physical magazine (one issue behind), digital version on Kindle and digital version iPad. The iPad version definitely is the winner of the two digital ones. The physical issue has it value too. Strangely enough I cannot find a combination subscription for physical and digital version or single cross platform subscription . I would love to have one of those, including a good search and archive function.

The iPad has an extremely simple adoption . No tutorials or manuals required. Just go and enjoy. Technology in its best form...the full set is here.

It has been a few years since we invested in location based services developer Bliin. Since then LBS have exploded. Cameras are now being equipped with GPS to be able to geo-locate the pictures. Leica's V-lux 20 is an excellent example of such a snapshot GPS camera. I took it out for a spin today running into the magazine party for zissisnotaglossy by Serge-Henry Valcke with pictures by Serge-Henry and Wouter Stelwagen.

Great to see the combination of local media and local community working out great. Denhaagcentraal A la Carte was a smashing success again with the local top class restaurants, the Mondriaan Institute and of course Denhaagcentraal the local media company creating a very nice event! The problems with the striking garbage collectors seem to be resolved. Unfortunately it will take quite some time until they get back to work and will have taken out the backlog of dirt and garbage around the city... Until that point Amsterdam will continue to be ready for garbage tourism... the full set is here.

With the garbage collectors on strike for more then a week Amsterdam is becoming a disgrace and an unhealthy place. Imagine going for dinner here??? I cannot believe that this is being tolerated. An end to the strike does not seem to be near either... The full set is here.

And of course digital subscription NewYorkTimes on the Kindle... To make sense of it all I am reading "Value creation and the future of news organizations" by Robert Picard...

Had a DCIF shareholder meeting today with the guys of Digifit. Together with co-shareholder Mediaguild we were impressed by the traction the team has made. Some exciting stuff to happen in the near future! The full set is here.

On April 26 1986 Disaster struck at nuclear power plant #4 in Chernobyl. The new dawn of communism based on nuclear energy and futuristic cities as Pripyat faded away overnight.
The area ('the exclusion zone') still is, and will be for a long long time, full of radiation and void of people. It is easy to forget these 'incidents', but having been there for a photo masterclass with Antonin Kratochvil at Easter, will make sure I will not forget the past and the lasting problems it has caused for the future.

Probably to prevent all parents and grand parents taking pictures all the time, the church had a no picture during the ceremony of Giullia's Holy communion...The full set is here

Added my final edit for the VIIphoto workshop in Chernobyl last week with Antonin Kratochvyl. Amazing experience and a strong guidance of the consequences of accidents with nuclear activities...The full edit is here.

Last week I was on an amazing workshop organized by Anotonin Kratochvyl of VIIphoto in Chernobyl and Pripyat the areas in Ukraine struck by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in 1986. I am still working on the final edit of my pictures, but the 'making of' can be found here.

A sad but also beautiful day. Today I received Dennis Hopper's photo book at the same time I read the news about the terminal status of his illness. Very sad for this special multi-talented artist... Tonight we have the tribute for Arjen Grolleman, also a special multi-talented artist of Kink FM who died two months ago. His favorite musicians including Marc Almond will make it a worthy night tonight...

On March 25 we will have the tribute evening for Kink FM's Arjen Grolleman in Amsterdam with a fantastic line up of artists including Marc Almond. Hoite Polkamp is running the overall production and I understand it will be a smashing but worthy tribute indeed.

Always interesting to meet up at Dauphine in Amsterdam. Most of the time 'full house' so easy to meet without complicated scheduling...

Finally I got my copy of the San Francisco Panorma, the ultimate celebration to quality newspapers. A great project, I am contemplating a Dutch version...

It had been a while since I was close to the infrastructure and technological side of FTTH. Speaking in Lisbon at the European Summit of the FTTH Council gave me a good opportunity to catch up. The project will be a follow up on Paradiso stills by Marc Geerards who brought back the people in the photo book of the same title by Dutch photographer Max Natkiel.
