Incredible... I was able to log into Skype again after hours of not being able to, due to 'software problems'. Amazing to see a sub 100k online users ... Just like in the beginning...

Never a dull moment visiting the PostCS building in Amsterdam. At the premises of award winning start ups Wakoopa and Fleck the new Apple keyboard was demoed by demogod Arjen, who shared his experiences being the first owner of the device in Amsterdam.
Next I went to see the reason of being there at the first place, Willem Velthoven, to return his Voigtlander lens he was so kind borrowing me. Willem is very busy preparing for all kinds of wonderful things such as Elhema and Fablab. The latter will be used at PICNIC07 too...

"I don't give a duck" was the credo for today's duck rally with the teams from Kinkfm, Veronica Story, Radio and TV school, Medialab and holding. After a mighty challenging day, we had all winners.....

A day full of new media. Everything in full swing for the Veronica event in September , creating the right atmosphere for the radio show we are preparing for.
Also visiting Erwin Blom who has been hooked by the iPhone virus too. Apparently from the same dealer as the other iPhones I have seen sofar....
Finishing off the day with the preparation for the Beach Volleyball in two weeks with IPAN..

As I will be taking pictures of speakers, delegates and lots more, it has become time again to move a little further in the fine art of photography and add some more tools...
At PICNIC I hope to have this going smoothly and take the great speaker line up into the digital archives...

(picture HJ Winkeldermaat)
Interesting to see what happens when a blogger/photographer visits you, in this case me...

Henk-Jan Winkeldermaat came to discuss whether I wanted to Keynote on the High Profile new media conference on November 19. Of course I agreed to do so.

He blogged about the visit, recorded the session and put the pictures online..

New media in full swing....

Taking the 15mm Voigtlaender out for a daylight spin. Great crispy lens but it will take me some time to get used to.... Coming Monday I'll take it to the Veronica Camping Tour so expect some more super wide angle later this week...

Willem Velthoven of Mediamatic is a great guy always getting something going. He is a wonderful advisory board member of Amsterdam Cross Media Week, doing some interesting programs like 'El Hema' and an avid Leica M8 Photographer. As I am getting more interested in the different kind of lenses for the M8, he was so kind to lend me his Voigtlander 15 mm. I will be test driving it coming week, but I already know by now that I am reading for the ultra wide angle!

The summer edition of the Amsterdam International Fashion Week is held this year at the Museum Square in Amsterdam. That meant that Caroline and I could just walk there.
James Veenhoff has made a great happening of it again and the young and upcoming designers show was excellent.

We had an unforgettable holiday last two weeks in South Africa. A country we visited for the fourth time, now to meet with friends that have moved there. Next to the normal site-seeing and going through the history we had a great long weekend at the Witwater lodge, a truly unique experience. You can see all of our holiday, but there is a lot of wildlife, kids and happy faces :)

A great meeting for my farewell from Interimic at good friend Meus' home. Not only was there nice company of people, but also the Iphone, especially flown in courtesy of Vincent, who got one in the US. Indeed a very snazzy piece of kit, must have as soon as it comes over to Europe...

At Ipan we will have a gaming evening coming Tuesday at Hotel Arena in Amsterdam. Not only will we have a very interesting line up of speakers moderated by myself, we will also have a competition where WII's can be won. So make sure you are there to enjoy and learn at the same time! Roderick is trying out the WII and the verdict from him is: GREAT!

Chris Hindley of Mint condition hair is Roderick's favorite when it comes to giving him a great hair cut. Today the combination of a tiresome couple of days and the relaxed treatment of Chris made Roderick nod off in the chair....

A good day to take the Leica and the new 75 mm Sumicron out for a shoot. In the morning I met up with Caro Bonink for another lesson how to shoot reporter style. Then Roderick and I went shopping and as he went off to the circus for his friends birthday, I took the opportunity to go for a gothic lolita photoshoot in the middle of Amsterdam. It was a book presentation and a show with fashion form Mfashion, a specialist Japanese clothing store. Interesting to see Michael Nederlof of Skoeps and Michael Schaap of 'Wat Heet' among many others taking pictures and film of the events....

A full day indeed, full of media and media activity. From deciding on the look-and-feel for PICNIC07, followed by visiting the old premises of KinkFM in Amsterdam, to seeing the future of digital media at Cinegrid.

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Lots of activities at Roderick's school, today they had circus. unfortunately rain stopped play tonight when the water came pouring down...

The first software update for AppleTV is a very nice one, it introduces Youtube. it is not a full fledged as on a computer, but a very good start and indication of what will come in the future. Youtube will be coming to iPhone too, now it is just waiting for that one to come over here...

An interesting gadget day today. Not only did my Leica Summicron 75 mm arrive enabling me to take some shots of Roderick, also my Blackberry 8800 arrived to replace the old model.
From the European media and new media perspective interesting developments took place during our conference call where the alliance of conferences is getting geared up for our meeting on July 3 in Amsterdam, hosted by PICNIC.

Pieter and Anneke celebrated their 25 year anniversary at one of the best locations in Rotterdam, De Maas. Next to a pleasant afternoon at the river, it was great to meet former colleagues from BT and other contacts again. And on a Sunday, traveling to Rotterdam does not take that much time...

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

It was a couple of years ago since I was in London. The last couple of days I was there to visit the leading digital radio conference taking place at the same time as the mobile tv conference. I did not take the Leica M8 or my Macbook Pro, a unique experience....

Friday, June 08, 2007

The 'class of 24' of the Veronica Radio School graduated today. With a ceremony at the Larixlaan Veronica has delivered a group of new radio makers again. Selection for the next class will take place coming week. One of the events I really feel sorry about to have had to miss was the Radio Bitches Awards earlier this week, also organised by this class. Next time I'll be there!

The monthly IPAN event was a BBQ at Strand Zuid, no presentations, just networking with more then 100 online professionals at the Amsterdam city hotspot beach...

First official day at Reboot is great. A well thought out program around the question "what is human?" with good speakers and Thomas' appeal to make Reboot 9.0 work by interacting. The fantastic weather ensured good interaction especially when the Danish special dish "frozen haring snacks" appeared....

Arrived in Copenhagen today for pre- Reboot 9.0. Wonderful group of people getting together to start up the events. The pictures of Reboot will be appearing here....

Monday, May 28, 2007

I have not been able to get the maximum quality out of my Leica M8 sofar as I could not use the RAW (DNG) mode, since Aperture does not support it yet. Today I downloaded Lightroom which does support this DNG format. I'll be trying it out at Reboot, so expect bigger files to come online soon....

A busy week indeed, but great to have friends from Sweden over. Roderick and Sebastian were playing together all the time and with their portable game devices.....
