Almost at the end of our honeymoon in Japan. A terrific period indeed we had. Lots of time to explore beautiful and interesting parts of the country and the people. Three things that will stick for a long time. First the public transport. Very punctual, very fast, very service oriented, very friendly staff and if there was anything wrong or had changed, good communication all the way. Secondly the quality of the food: great... thirdly amazing hospitality in big cities as well as small towns... everything is clean and of high quality and the staff always does something extra...

Service and eye for detail is exceptional in Japan. Today we visited two interesting brands: Visvim and Evisu. The latter hand paints the Evisu 'swoosh' on the special edition pants.

Very nifty system where passengers know exactly where the subway doors will stop and easy and efficient exit and entry is possible. A similar set up (even more nifty) is available for the fast trains...Why can this happen in Kyoto and not in Amsterdam? Good opportunity for knowledge transfer?

In Japan the highly advanced toilets are for me still one of the big eye openers. How did toilet systems develop so completely differently in Europe?

Service, service, service... appears to becoming natural everywhere in Japan. Here in Kyoto excellent food and very friendly staff all around....

Taking the metro in Tokyo is always special. It is very often very crowded and people seem to fall asleep more or less immediately after entering the train...I often wonder whether they wake up in time for their stop...
